Protostellar outflows are beacons for ongoing star formation. Despite years of observations of outflows, their launching mechanism and origin are still poorly understood. In fact, it is heavily debated. Most of the characterization of protostellar outflows is driven by a sub-millimeter telescope. In this talk, I will present recent JWST results from the ERS and GO programs on the atomic outflow from the deeply embedded protostar that challenge the current understanding of outflow launching.
